Gangsters, Madams & Peaky Blinders: history of Mob and beyond
After the industrial revolutions, the Western world experienced accelerated changes. Great Britain was the powerhouse par excellence, spreading its factories across the globe. Meanwhile, a subworld of marginality and inequality emerged at the pace of progress. In the cold Ireland, the working class fled famine by embarking to distant America or nearby England in search of a better life, while others stayed to resist the crisis, revolution, and war in a context where organized crime constituted true empires of blood.
Join us on a tour to learn about the origins of the Irish mafia and its influence around the world. We will reconstruct little-known stories among the iconic alleys of ancient Victorian brothels and follow the footsteps of criminals like Billy Kimber, the great leader of the Peaky Blinders, his stay in Dublin, and the connections of the famous Birmingham gang with the IRA, the Rebellion, and Independence.
